Live broadcasts of trials, exhibitions, juror appointment events and forums were held yesterday by Qianhai Cooperation Zone People’s Court during its open house, which attracted over 300 deputies to the National People’s Congress and citizens to attend.

As a participant of the Shenzhen Court Open House event, the Qianhai court showcased its special achievements on cross-border legal settlement.

Cases and mediation that adopted Hong Kong law and practices were pronounced and settled during the open house. The live broadcastings were screened at several venues in Qianhai, allowing viewers to better understand the expertise of the court.

To expand its jury team — which was made up of 13 Hong Kong jurors — the court appointed 19 more Hong Kong residents to the court.

“I think it’s a good opportunity for me to participate in the construction of Qianhai and the Greater Bay Area. With my experience in the finance industry, I wish to help make fair judgments in related cases in the future,” said Lui Yu-gan, a newly appointed juror. “As the legal cooperation between Hong Kong and Shenzhen becomes more closely tied, I believe the business environment of the Greater Bay Area will be further improved.”

“I think the Qianhai court’s innovative practices need to be known by more people, because it has provided professional services and will help Chinese enterprises go global. In the future, the court’s experience should be adopted by other courts and legal institutions in the Greater Bay Area,” said Hung Wai-man, managing director of Qianhai International Liaison Services.

Forums and discussions on building an international business hub in the Greater Bay Area were also held.

According to the latest release, by the end of April the court had heard 17,213 cases, including 3,100 involving Hong Kong entities.
