China Southern Airlines will open a flight from Shenzhen to Mohe, a county-level city located at China’s northernmost tip where people can see aurora borealis, or polar lights.

The flight CZ8457/8 will start service July 3 and run until the end of August. It will operate every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The flight will depart from Shenzhen at 10:45 a.m. and arrive at Mohe at 5:45 p.m. with a stopover at the Harbin airport.

The return flight will leave at 6:20 p.m. and arrive in Shenzhen at around 1 a.m. the following day, according to a release of China Southern Airlines on Thursday.

In the initial stage of operation, travelers can enjoy a discount down to 1,770 yuan (US$268) for a one-way trip to Mohe.

Round-trip fare for group travelers is 2,820 yuan.

Mohe is nicknamed “China’s Arctic Town” and is the only place in China where people are able to enjoy the atmospheric phenomena of aurora borealis and the midnight sun. The best location for tourists to see these spectacles is in an area known as Arctic Village.

Mohe is known for its picturesque scenery and abundant natural resources.

For summer travelers, China Southern Airlines will also open routes from Shenzhen to Hailar, Xining and Lanzhou.
