Six backpackers from Shenzhen were rescued after the tragic accident where two boats capsized off Phuket in southern Thailand, Shenzhen’s tourism bureau announced on its official Weibo account Friday.

However, another nine Shenzhen backpackers remain missing, according to the Shenzhen Tourism Agency Association.

According to Zou Feng, head of the tourism agency association, 15 Shenzhen tourists booked tickets for the boats through an online travel agency in Shenzhen. While six have been rescued and sent to a local hospital for checkups, the other nine are still missing.

Two people in charge from the Shenzhen-based travel agency have left for Thailand to learn more about the accident there.

According to the tourism Bureau, there is no missing report of tourists who joined package tours departing from Shenzhen. All of the 607 tourists from 25 package tour groups on Phuket Island were reported to be safe.

Zou said that currently the association had not received any help request yet. Families of the missing tourists can contact the association by calling 0755-8657-5003.
