A new bookstore, Shenzhen Book City Longgang Store, will debut Wednesday, a day before the opening of the 28th National Book Fair in the city, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.

However, the city’s first unmanned bookstore, which is located within the Longgang store, has already opened to the public.

Residents should first scan the QR code on the door and register as a member in order to gain entrance to the unmanned bookstore. Once the registration is successful, the door will recognize the person’s face and automatically open the next time they arrive.

Additionally, customers can quickly scan through the list of books and select books using the LED display screen and another large screen. After a book is chosen, customers can take it to the exit and pay for it by scanning the barcode on the book.

Various modes of payment are accepted, including Alipay, WeChat and the book city’s smart card. The door will open automatically when the payment is completed.

Covering an area of 35,800 square meters, the Longgang store has seven floors, five of which are above ground. The two underground floors are designated for restaurants and boutiques, as well as a parking garage that provides 220 parking spaces.

The Longgang store is the fifth Shenzhen Book City store under the Shenzhen Publication & Distribution Group, following the CBD store, the Luohu store, the Nanshan store and the Bao’an store.
