Five nurses with Longgang People’s Hospital helped comfort and treat restless and unconscious passengers on a train that stopped in the middle of two stations for over four hours due to a rail malfunction along the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway on Saturday, the Shenzhen Evening News reported.

At around 3:30 p.m., a malfunction occurred on the section between Changping and Dongguan stations, causing delays to several trains.

A blackout took place on the train, causing the air-conditioning system to fail. After waiting for a few hours, some passengers became anxious and several began to feel sick.

During the stagnation, five nurses in the fourth carriage of the train lent a hand to help train attendants comfort the restless passengers.

A passenger surnamed Huang who witnessed the nurses’ voluntary and timely help posted an article with pictures on her Weibo account, documenting how the nurses helped the train attendants maintain order and gave first-aid to a woman.

Huang told the newspaper that the carriage was very hot due to the lack of air-conditioning.

Two nurses told a crew member to contact local police or hospitals to arrange for help if an emergency were to take place.

At the same time, a female passenger suddenly passed out. According to Huang, another two nurses dashed to the patient and carried her to a seat. The nurses tried to cool the patient’s body temperature and gave her sweet food and water.

Many passengers felt relieved after learning the women were nurses, said Huang.

However, another unexpected incident happened when a man jumped out of the carriage and asked his wife, who was carrying their child, to jump out of the train too. The nurses held the woman’s arm tightly and persuaded her not to jump for safety reasons, and the woman decided to stay on the train with the child.

“I was really touched by the nurses’ kindness,” said Huang.

One of the nurses named Yang Ling said she was going back to Shenzhen with four of her colleagues after a provincial nurse competition in Guangzhou.

It was not Yang’s first time helping patients in an emergency while off duty. She once administered first-aid treatment for a man while she was taking her kid to get an injection at a hospital in Huizhou. She had to put down her child to carry out the emergency rescue after the man fainted and fell to the ground.
