Vovka Ashkenazy, son of the internationally recognized pianist and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy, will collaborate with Chinese pianist Fang Ziqi to present Ravel’s “Ma Mere L’Oye,” Tchaikovsky’s “Tendres Reproches, Op. 72, No. 3,” “November Troika,” “April Snowdrop” and “February Carnival,” Beethoven’s “Sieben Bagatellen, Op. 33,” Ginastera’s “Danzas Argentinas” and some Chinese folk pieces.
Vovka Ashkenazy
After completing his musical studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Britain, Vovka Ashkenazy made his debut in London at the Barbican Center in 1983 with the London Symphony Orchestra under Richard Hickox, with whom he performed Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto No. 1.”
Ashkenazy is very active as a chamber musician and has recorded a CD of Italian music with his brother, the clarinetist Dimitri Ashkenazy. The year 2001 saw the start of a new piano-duo partnership with Greek virtuoso pianist, Vassilis Tsabropoulos. Vovka Ashkenazy has also worked with the Reykjavík Wind Quintet and has released a CD with them on the Chandos label. Alongside his concert activities, Ashkenazy also devotes his time to teaching. He has given master classes around the world.
Fang Ziqi
Fang obtained her master’s degree at Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media in Germany and now teaches at Wuhan Conservatory of Music in Hubei Province.
