A baby weighing 3.2 kilograms was born at Longgang Mother and Children Health Care Hospital at 9:39 a.m., just in time for the arrival of Mangkhut, the 22nd typhoon of the year, as it had started to affect the city, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

Soon after giving birth, the mother surnamed Liang named her newborn Mangkhut.

According to the hospital, the wards had taken in 27 expectant mothers to give birth Saturday night and six babies were born early yesterday morning.

Due to Mangkhut, Shenzhen hospitals admitted some patients with injuries caused by falling objects.

At around 8:40 a.m., Fuyong People’s Hospital admitted a patient who was injured by a scrap of steel that was blown into the air on his way to buy vegetables. At around 10 a.m., a 63-year-old woman was taken to a hospital for a head injury caused by a falling tile.

A 120 emergency ambulance rushed three patients to Xili People’s Hospital after they were injured by a billboard at the eastern square of Shenzhen North Railway Station. All three were in stable condition.

A Nanshan hospital saw three patients who were injured by branches broken by the wind. Two of them have been discharged and one was taken to the inpatient department for further treatment.
