Meaning:

“古” means “ancient,” and “早” means “early.” This term, originating in Fujian and Taiwan provinces, refers to “ancient” and “from old times.” As an adjective, it’s often used to describe things from the past and arousing nostalgia. For example, people talk of traditional food, old buildings or toys from their childhood memories as “古早味的” (of the past and worth remembering).

Example:

A: 放假你打算去哪里玩?

Fàngjià nǐ dǎsuàn qù nǎlǐ wán?

Where do you plan to travel during the holiday?

B: 我打算就在广东省内转转,去寻找一些古早味的美食。

Wǒ dǎsuàn jiù zài guǎngdōng shěng nèi zhuànzhuàn,qù xúnzhǎo yīxiē gǔzǎowèi de měishí。

I will just travel within Guangdong Province and look for food from the old times.

A: 你真心是个吃货。

Nǐ zhēnxīn shì gè chīhuò。

You are a true foodie.
