In order to clear traffic hazards and prevent road accidents, the Shenzhen traffic police have initiated a series of “toughest-ever” actions to crack down on traffic violations since Oct. 12, according to Daily Sunshine.

At a media conference Friday, the city’s traffic police bureau pledged to monitor all of the roads across the city, day and night, for vehicles, non-motor vehicles and pedestrians.

“The actions we are about to take will cover the broadest range ever and will be the toughest to,” said Huang Qiang, chief of the bureau’s traffic accident section.

The traffic police bureau will also work with other government departments to strengthen the management of trucks by carrying out large-scale inspections with the transportation and safety surveillance departments in a bid to reduce the rate of accidents involving trucks.

Electronic devices will be used to detect pedestrians and non-motor vehicles that violate traffic rules like jaywalking and running red lights.

Certain traffic violations are the focus of the actions, as the traffic police will be especially tough on drunk driving, fatigued driving, overloaded driving, speeding and the like.

“We will conduct special operations in busy areas with hotels, bars and KTVs to crack down on drunk driving, especially at night and in the early morning,” said Huang.
