In response to a previous report on the poor mobile phone signal on certain roads in the city, the Shenzhen Branch of China Mobile and the city’s economic, trade and information commission said that the reason is complicated, and involves a shortage in power supply and the relocation of base stations, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported Thursday.

In the next stage, the telecom operator will focus on upgrading and building more base stations, said the report.

On Oct. 26, political adviser Chen Zhilie complained at a political consultative conference that while driving on Shennan Boulevard, the mobile phone signal was poor and his phone calls were often interrupted.

Additionally, Chen drew a map showing four sections of the boulevard that have poor signal. He suggested that the city government order telecom operators to conduct an inspection and solve the signal problems.

On Oct. 30, a reporter from the Daily made a field visit to the places and found that mobile phone signal in the areas had returned to normal. However, some interviewees reported that they had previously encountered poor cell phone signal in the areas.

The Shenzhen Branch of China Mobile said it had immediately arranged for technicians to test the city’s major roads, including Shennan Boulevard, Beihuan Boulevard and Binhai Boulevard, when it received the report. Currently, the 4G network on the three main roads has reached the national standard.

According to the city’s economic, trade and information commission, Shenzhen has a high density of all kinds of mobile communication base stations. However, due to the large population and density of buildings, it is difficult to fully cover the city with mobile phone signal.

The commission suggested that if Shenzhen residents are troubled by a signal problem, they can call the complaint hotline 12345 and the commission will urge telecom operators to solve the problem in a timely manner.
