The second cross-Straits youth baseball league final will kick off in Shenzhen on Saturday and will run through Dec. 8, according to a news conference Monday.

The event will be jointly held by the Shenzhen Municipal Government and the exchange and cooperation committee of cross-Straits baseball. A series of activities will continue to carry forward the idea of one family across the Straits, which through baseball plays a great role in strengthening the friendship and promoting sport and cultural exchanges between teenagers and young students from both sides.

The event is the biggest individual sport exchange activity held across the Straits in terms of scale, as it attracts a lot of attention from both sides, Liu Pingsheng, deputy director of the executive committee of the second cross-Straits youth baseball league, said at the conference.

Since June, the Shenzhen executive committee, along with relevant working groups, has been preparing for the tournament, including stadium renovation, event and competition organization, exchange activities and logistics support.

The final tournament will welcome 42 teams, with 888 participants in total, competing for five championships in five age groups. Shenzhen University and Southern University of Science and Technology will represent the host side in the baseball league final.

In order to promote cross-Straits exchange and communication, in addition to the final, many cultural activities, forums and seminars will be held. For example, an evening gala will be put on for all participants, judges and other staff on the night of Dec. 5 in Huaxia Arts Center in Nan’shan District. During the weeklong tournament, students from Taiwan will visit tech giants such as Tencent and Hytera, and will stay with local Shenzhen families.
