State-owned assets total ¥3.4 trillion

By the end of 2017, the total amount of State-owned assets in Shenzhen had exceeded 3.40 trillion yuan (US$494.91 billion), an increase of 84.91 percent year on year, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

The city’s liabilities reached 1.74 trillion yuan, an increase of 179.9 percent over the same period last year. Net assets stood at 1.66 trillion yuan, an increase of 36.34 percent compared to a year ago, according to a special report submitted to the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress.

It marked the first time that Shenzhen’s State-owned assets had been made public for the committee to realize complete supervision.

The report classifies State-owned assets into four categories, namely, assets of State-owned enterprises, State-owned assets of financial enterprises, assets of administrative institutions and natural assets.

In 2017, the total assets of State-owned enterprises in the city amounted to 2,597.5 billion yuan, an increase of 125.9 percent year on year. The tertiary industry accounted for 94.7 percent of the total assets, which were mainly distributed in such industries as social services, real estate, transportation and commerce.

The State-owned assets of financial enterprises in Shenzhen totaled 265.5 billion yuan, of which the assets of State-held financial enterprises amounted to 256.5 billion yuan, of which the securities industry accounted for 82 percent. There were 2,141 administrative institutions in the city with 171,000 permanent staff and assets totaling 550 billion yuan.

In terms of natural assets, the report lists more than 200,000 hectares of land resources, including 20,350 hectares of garden plots, 85,407 hectares of urban and rural land as well as land for mining and industry.

The land for transportation and reserve land covered 10,359 hectares and 9,525 hectares, respectively.

The sea area in Shenzhen covered 115,500 hectares, and there were 51 uninhabited islands in the city. Meanwhile, Shenzhen possessed 1.05 million tons of iron ore, 659 tons of copper ore and 44,520 tons of lead ore. The total amount of water resources reached 1.96 billion cubic meters.

The report also showed that there were 2,740 senior executives employed in State-owned enterprises in Shenzhen last year, with salaries totaling 1.33 billion yuan. Their per capita annual salary stood at 487,000 yuan, an increase of 9.2 percent over the previous year.
