City presents cultural feasts year-round

The city has released the long-expected 2019 Shenzhen Culture Menu, which features 34 events that cover areas such as the arts and creativity, innovative design, science and technology, and leisure and sports.

Compared to the 31 events held last year, this year’s culture menu has eliminated eight events that had been held every two or three years and added 11 new events, Liu Wenbin, head of the Cultural System Reform and Development Office of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, said at a press conference Friday.

In its third consecutive year being published, this year’s culture menu highlights the international influences on Shenzhen’s culture through the Shenzhen “Belt and Road” International Music Festival, Shenzhen International Photography Exhibition and Shenzhen (International) Science Film Week, and continues to strengthen cooperation between Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao in cultural areas by holding the Bi-city Biennale of UrbanismArchitecture (Shenzhen) and Shenzhen-Macao Creative Week.

This year’s culture menu adheres to high quality and high standards, and focuses on innovation and creation. Most of the events are being held and supported by international authorities and professional organizations with global reputations, and many of the activities represent the highest level in China in their respective field; The WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Finals is the top event in the world women’s tennis field; China Design Exhibition and Public Art Thematic Exhibition is a national creative design exhibition; Shenzhen Design Week and Shenzhen Global Design Award is dedicated to becoming the Oscars of the design industry.

This year’s culture menu responds to the needs of the public. The 34 events offer various choices that enable citizens to enjoy cultural activities every month.

Famous and influential activities, such as the China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair, Shenzhen International Marathon, NBA China Games (Shenzhen Station) and Shenzhen Project Care, are suitable for people of all ages and reflect the characteristics of the city, which is the key to attracting citizens to participate.

The activities each last from a few days to more than a month. Get ready for this year-round cultural feast.
