City to push forward 735 major projects this year

With a total investment of 74.9 billion yuan (US$11.16 billion), 31 key projects related to the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area were launched in Shenzhen yesterday, the Nanfang Daily reported.

Shenzhen has a total of 735 key projects for 2019, with intended investments reaching 1.24 trillion yuan, according to a plan released by the city’s development and reform commission.

In addition to projects concerning urban infrastructure and people’s livelihood, Shenzhen is paying special attention to ecological construction and industrial innovation this year, said the Daily.

Shenzhen will accelerate the construction of the urban rail and road network, multi-story parking garages and utility tunnels this year, according to the plan. The city plans to invest 28.74 billion yuan in transportation infrastructure through the year, which accounts for 47.1 percent of the city’s total investment plan.

This year, Shenzhen is investing 13.77 billion yuan to improve people’s livelihood, which accounts for 22.6 percent of the total investment.

The city will expedite the construction of a number of new hospitals, including Xinhua Hospital, Shenzhen No. 2 Children’s Hospital and Dapeng Hospital. Meanwhile, it will push ahead with the construction of universities and middle schools.

Shenzhen will speed up the implementation of the new housing policy. It will increase the supply of talent housing and government-subsidized housing by 34,000 units this year.

With a goal of becoming an innovative and creative city with global influence, Shenzhen is gearing up to further boost innovation in its industrial sector and plans to invest 12.4 billion yuan in the field this year, which accounts for 20.3 percent of its total investment.

Environmental protection and ecological restoration also make up a major part of the city’s investment plan this year, with an investment of 6.09 billion yuan, accounting for 10 percent of the total investment.

The city will focus on promoting the quality of forests, characteristic-themed parks and municipal parks, improving the monitoring and controlling system for the ecological environment and meteorology, and cracking down on water pollution.
