A total of five “little diplomats” from Shenzhen voiced their ideas at the Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) 2019 Global Youth Summit at the United Nations, which wrapped up Saturday at the U.N. headquarters in New York, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

Eleven juveniles were selected out of 150,000 primary and middle school students in Shenzhen after a five-month competition to represent Shenzhen in the delegation at this year’s summit.

Together with over 2,000 outstanding young students from more than 100 countries, students from the Shenzhen delegation simulated the U.N.’s agenda to discuss hot current affairs on behalf of different countries in different committees and reached a draft resolution.

The five brilliant representatives from the Shenzhen delegation — Zhou Shaohan, Shen Peiru, Liao Qiyue, Zhou Jingcheng and Xiao Guoguo — were selected by the committee to announce their resolution in front of official U.N. representatives.

The resolution received a unanimous vote to become formal and will be sent to the Secretary General of the U.N., the report said.

According to staff at the local organizing committee of the summit, this was the fourth time that Shenzhen had their delegation attend the summit, and so far there are 16 young students from Shenzhen who have spoken out on the U.N. stage, which not only demonstrates Shenzhen’s fruitful results in education but has also broken the record for the number of students to speak at the U.N.’s golden hall from a single delegation.

MMUN Global Youth Summit, established in 2006, is the only demonstration program for young kids, according to the report.
