A total of 137 projects that stood out in the preliminary and professional contests in 10 cities in nine countries will participate in the finals of the Third International Talent Innovative & Entrepreneurial Competition to be held in the city this week.

They were selected from 1,850 items that registered for the competition.

Among the winners in the preliminary contests, 52 percent are doctoral degree holders and 78 hold master’s degrees or above. A total of 1,146 contestants, or 62 percent of the total, are foreign nationals. The contestants own 772 patents and copyrights.

The winners will attend the professional final, industry final and overall final to be held in the city. The professional finals in AI, fintech and IoT will be held tomorrow, and the industry finals in electronic technology, biology and life science, materials and energy, Internet and mobile Internet, and advanced manufacturing, will be held Wednesday.

The overall final will be held at Tian’an Cloud Valley Industrial Park in Longgang District on Friday, in which nine leading experts and investment gurus will form the judging panel.

The winner of the final will have a chance to win a prize of up to 1.4 million yuan (US$208,740), the organizer, the Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, said yesterday. Nearly 40 venture capital institutions have set up a 25-billion-yuan pool to finance outstanding projects in the contest.

The awards ceremony will be held Sunday at Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center as a major sideline event of the Conference on International Exchange of Professionals.

The preliminary contests were held in Boston, Stockholm, Sydney, Madrid, Toronto, Berlin, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Silicon Valley and London in March to attract talents and projects.
