The cool weather will continue this week with temperatures ranging between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius and rainfall for most of the week, the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said.

Although Shenzhen entered summer in meteorological terms April 14 this year, due to weak cold air and upper-level trough the weather in Shenzhen has been cloudy with limited sunshine and frequent rainfall.

During the May Day holiday, the average temperature was 22.2 degrees Celsius, the lowest from the same period in the past five years and the third lowest in the past 50 years, following 20.4 degrees Celsius in 2013 and 21 degrees Celsius in 1991.

In Shenzhen, summer starts when the average temperature in five straight days reaches above 22 degrees Celsius.

According to meteorologists, the Dragon Boat rain, intensive rainfalls that are brought on by summer monsoons and affect the city in the weeks ahead of the Dragon Boat Festival, will arrive earlier this year. The summer monsoon from the South China Sea is expected to arrive this weekend.
