Pet owners can now apply to register their lovely pet dogs through the Meilishenzhen WeChat account (mlszgzh), the Shenzhen Municipal Urban Administration and Law Enforcement Bureau said at a press conference at a Futian pet park Thursday.

By scanning a QR code that was said to have been posted in public areas, including parks and residential communities across the city, pet owners can reach the Shenzhen dog raising service platform where they can enter relevant information to complete the registration.

The city has offered online registration for pet dogs through the Meilishenzhen WeChat official account since January 2018. As of May 6 this year, 38,183 applications had been received.

In order to make the service more convenient, the platform issues an e-card for each registered pet dog. After submitting the application through the platform, pet owners can not only receive a paper dog-raising certificate but also an electronic version on their WeChat Wallet column.

Those who have already finished the registration through the platform can directly add the e-card to their WeChat accounts.

The platform has also streamlined the procedure. Pet owners no longer need to provide housing property certificates or lease contracts when filling out their home addresses. Additionally, applications are available for hybrid dog breeds that share no evident features with prohibited or dangerous breeds.

The bureau said that if pet dogs are found without registration, the owners will be fined based on the law and required to register after July 1 this year. For any inquiries, residents can call the 24-hour hotline 12319.
