U.S. contemporary artist Ron English who explores brand imagery and advertising is holding the “English Translations — Ron English New Artwork Exhibition” at Bense Art Space in Nanshan District. Follow WeChat “benseartspace” and then visit the exhibition free of charge.

The exhibition is comprised of 15 large oil paintings on canvas, 18 works on paper, two monumental sculptures, dozens of new toys and print releases. English has also created 60 new songs that serve as the soundtrack for some epic installations.

In his new series “English Translations,” English reimagines icons of pop culture through the prism of his unique hyper-surrealistic mind. “English” becomes a language where everything is at once soothingly familiar and jarringly foreign. Those who are interested in street fashion are suggested to book the lovely toys on site.

One of the most prolific and recognizable artists alive today, English has bombed the global landscape with unforgettable images on the streets, in museums, in movies, books and television. He coined the term “POPaganda” to describe his signature mash-up of high and low cultural touchstones, from superhero mythology to totems of art history, populated with his vast and constantly growing arsenal of original characters, including MC Supersized, the obese fast-food mascot featured in the hit movie “Supersize Me” and Abraham Obama, the fusion of the 16th and 44th U.S. presidents, an image widely discussed in the media as directly impacting the 2008 election.

Other characters carousing through English’s art in paintings, billboards and sculpture include three-eyed rabbits, “udderly” delicious cowgirls and grinning skulls, blending stunning visuals with the bitingly humorous undertones of America’s Premier Pop Iconoclast.
