A dump truck driver who was suspected of fatigued driving ran into a support column and collapsed a temporary supporting bridge for the renovation of Shangbu Flyover of Beihuan Boulevard near the Yinhu area yesterday morning.

The accident happened at 5:47 a.m., causing traffic disruption and serious congestion on Beihuan Boulevard and nearby roads, such as Sungang and Huanggang roads.

A police investigation found the truck was empty when the accident happened. The driver with Shenzhen Tianrun Earth Work Co. Ltd. was suspected of fatigued driving, police said in a preliminary report.

No casualties were reported in the accident. In a release yesterday, police confirmed the driver would be held fully responsible for the accident, and the company will be liable for the damages.

Traffic resumed to normal at around 3:25 p.m. yesterday after nearly 10 hours of emergency rescue work.

According to the Construction Center of the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau, the incident will delay the progress of Bantian-Yinhu Passage by about a month.

Shangbu Interchange Flyover on Beihuan Boulevard, which is under renovation, is one of the four interchange flyovers that are being built or renovated for the operation of Bantian-Yinhu Passage, which links Bantian in Longgang District with Futian and Luohu districts. When it is put into operation before the end of this year, the trip between Bantian and Futian CBD will be cut to 12 minutes.

Along the 10.7-kilometer passage, which includes a 4.6-kilometer tunnel through Jigong Mountain in the Yinhu area, four interchange flyovers have been built for vehicles transferring to Nigang Road, Beihuan Boulevard, Nanping Expressway and Huancheng Road.
