A tropical low pressure system over the South China Sea that may become Typhoon Wipha today, the seventh typhoon of the year, will bring heavy rain to the city tomorrow and Friday on its northwesterly route to western Guangdong and Hainan, Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said yesterday.

It will cool down the high temperatures that have continued to affect the city in recent weeks.

Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory issued a blue alert for typhoon at 10 p.m. yesterday, reminding residents to take precautions and follow the instructions or notices issued by the maritime and fishery departments.

The city is expected to see strong winds. The wind will gradually weaken tomorrow, according to the observatory.

Heavy rain will last until Friday, according to the observatory.

Residents are advised to stay away from the sea areas, rivers, low-lying areas and slopes, and to stop all sea activities.

Affected by Wipha, the eastern, western and Pearl River Delta areas in Guangdong will experience heavy rain tomorrow and Friday, according to Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory.

Yangjiang, Maoming and Zhanjiang will see torrential downpours.
