A project was initiated Friday to perfect the sewer system in Hezhou Community in Hangcheng Subdistrict.

The project, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of August, aims to solve problems like the discharge of untreated sewage into the river, sewage overflow and waterlogging caused by overcapacity or damage to the sewer network.

After the launch ceremony for the project, Guo Ziping, head of Bao’an District Government, heard about the drainage problems in Hezhou Community and the renovation plan for its sewer system.

It was reported that Hezhoujiucun and Hezhouxincun are both old housing estates in the community, with pipe networks for rainwater and sewage mixed or misconnected.

Additionally, most of the buildings haven’t installed septic tanks, which has resulted in the direct discharge of sewage into sanitation manholes and blockages along pipelines.

The renovation project will optimize the infrastructure, such as separate pipelines for rainwater and sewage, as well as septic tanks, of 225 buildings in Hezhoujiucun and Hezhouxincun.

Meanwhile, 1,200 meters of new rainwater side ditches, 260 meters of sewage pipes and 196 septic tanks will be built, and 2,300 meters of the sewer network and 184 meters of culverts will be renovated.
