The Seventh Shenzhen International Low Carbon City Forum will be held at the China Capital Market Institute in Nanshan District on Aug. 29 and 30, the forum’s organizing committee said at a press conference Friday.

The two-day forum, focusing on green urban development, will consist of one main forum, six sub-forums and a series of supporting activities, and gather guests from more than 10 countries and regions.

Some high-ranking government officials will join the forum to discuss heated topics such as climate change, low-carbon city and sustainable development with officials from the United Nations, and scholars and entrepreneurs from home and abroad.

This year’s forum will continue to have a roadshow and an expo that aim to promote the effective match-making of green and low-carbon technologies, products, projects and capital, and build an important venture capital platform in the field.

The forum will also feature the awards ceremony of the BlueSky Awards, which honors outstanding green and low-carbon development projects, pioneer cities and excellent individuals; a signing ceremony for major projects; and a technology exhibition featuring local low-carbon enterprises.

Wu You, deputy secretary-general of the city government, said the forum is a significant measure taken by Shenzhen to implement green and low-carbon development and has become an important platform for all parties to discuss cutting-edge topics, share achievements and carry out practical cooperation.

According to Wu, the energy consumption per unit of GDP in Shenzhen decreased by 4.2 percent in 2018, while water consumption per 10,000 yuan (US$1,409) of GDP dropped from 19.95 cubic meters in 2010 to 8.41 cubic meters in 2018. The city had 345 good-air days last year.

This year’s forum is being guided by the National Development and Reform Commission, Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission and the Shenzhen Municipal Government, and organized by Shenzhen International Low Carbon Forum Development Center.
