Patients in Shenzhen are now able to get electronic receipts for medical expenses by scanning the QR codes on the medical diagnosis sheets, as the city’s first medical e-receipt debuted at the Shenzhen Hospital of Southern Medical University in Bao’an District on Thursday.
The medical electronic receipts have the same legitimacy as paper receipts and can be looked up on the unified electronic receipt verification website of Guangdong Province, according to the hospital.
The hospital’s electronic receipt system has also been connected with Shenzhen Municipal Finance Bureau’s system.
“Compared with the original paper receipts, e-receipts are fast and convenient,” said a patient surnamed Yan, who received the first medical e-receipt from the hospital.
Yan also got to try the self-service ticket collection function of the hospital’s WeChat mini-program. “I don’t have to worry about losing my medical receipts for reimbursement anymore, as the e-receipts can automatically be gathered in a folder that is accessible on the Internet.”
According to the hospital, receipt printing has been a major service at the hospital’s counters, as patients have to provide receipts in order to reimburse maternity insurance, medical insurance and employment injury insurance.
“The medical e-receipts can not only provide convenience for patients, but also reduce the operating costs of the hospital,” said Zhang Leijun, deputy head of the Shenzhen Hospital of Southern Medical University.
At present, designated counters have been opened at the hospital for patients to exchange e-receipts for paper receipts. In the near future, the hospital will also provide self-service machines for receipt printing.
It was reported that another five hospitals, namely, Shenzhen People’s Hospital, Shenzhen No. 2 People’s Hospital, Shenzhen Maternity & Child Health-care Hospital, Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital and Shenzhen Children’s Hospital, will soon provide medical e-receipts.
By the end of 2020, all public hospitals in Shenzhen will be able to provide e-receipts.
