Shenzhen is mulling over building the Airport East Transport Hub to offer a seamless connection between high-speed rail, Metro, ferry and flight services, according to a report by the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily yesterday.

An additional high-speed railway will be built to link Shenzhen and Maoming in western Guangdong, with the Airport East Transport Hub as the terminus in Shenzhen, the report said, quoting the city’s railway hub plan (2016-2030).

The hub will have six platforms and 14 railway lines and will be connected with airport terminals, Metro lines 1, 12, 20 and 26, and the intercity rail through rapid transit systems.

Upon completion, the hub will also connect the in-service Xiamen-Shenzhen High-speed Railway to the planned Shenzhen-Maoming High-speed Railway, providing a link between Shenzhen and Dongguan, Guangzhou, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Yangjiang and Maoming.

The Shenzhen-Daya Bay intercity rail will also be linked with the Airport East Transport Hub. This rail will run through the northern part of the city, passing Bao’an, Longhua, Longgang and Pingshan districts and Daya Bay in Huizhou. The second high-speed rail between Shenzhen and Guangzhou will also have a stop at the hub. It will link Qianhai in Nanshan, the CBD in Dongguan and Guangzhou Science Town, which are the key nodes of Guangzhou-Shenzhen Science and Innovation Corridor.

The Shenzhen rail construction office and Shenzhen Metro group will organize an international consulting conference Sept. 16 over the construction plan and development of the adjacent areas.

The consulting conference will mainly discuss two areas for development, the core area of the hub and its neighboring area. According to the plan, the core area covers 67.7 hectares of land, which is encompassed by Hangzhan No. 6 Road, Hangzhan No. 7 Road, Bao’an Boulevard and Xinghua Road. The area surrounding the core area is also called a coordinated area for development. It covers 194 hectares and is encompassed by Bao’an Boulevard, Xiashiwei Road, Huaide South Road, National Highway 107 and Xinghua Road.
