The governments of Shenzhen and Guangzhou have reaffirmed their ongoing commitment to further deepen collaboration, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

The two cities expressed their resolve when a delegation led by Shenzhen Party chief Wang Weizhong and Shenzhen Mayor Chen Rugui visited Guangzhou on Thursday and signed a framework agreement on deepening strategic cooperation.

It marked a new framework agreement signed by the two cities after 2013, and underlined that there remains significant scope for Shenzhen and Guangzhou to bolster their cooperation and explore new opportunities.

Accompanied by Guangzhou Party chief Zhang Shuofu and Guangzhou Mayor Wen Guohui, the Shenzhen delegation inspected the development of Nansha New Area and the Nansha free trade zone, the autonomous driving industry and the Nansha scientific research base of Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey.

During the meeting, Wang expressed his gratitude to Guangzhou for its full support of Shenzhen’s building of a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Wang said that Guangzhou has rich history, profound culture and a high level of internationalization. The city has always been a model for Shenzhen in such areas as urban planning and management, education and health-care development.

Wang hopes that the two cities will take the signing of the framework agreement as an opportunity and continue to play to their respective advantages based on their solid ties in the past.

It is also expected that Guangzhou and Shenzhen will consistently support each other, join hands with Hong Kong and Macao to build an international first-class bay area and city cluster, and make greater achievements in boosting the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macao.

According to Zhang, Guangzhou will continue to develop all-round cooperation with Shenzhen, and learn from Shenzhen’s advanced experience in scientific and technological innovation, industrial development, business environment reform and the construction of a free trade zone.

According to the agreement, the two cities will cooperate in building an international science and technology innovation center and a comprehensive transportation hub, as well as modern industrial systems with global competitiveness.
