The 2019 Championship for Innovative Design was launched at the Shenzhen Industrial Museum in Futian District yesterday, soliciting innovative designs from college students at home and abroad.

This year, the competition is divided into two categories, namely, cultural and creative product design and household product design. Each category includes an open-ended theme and a propositional theme.

In the category of cultural and creative product design, participants are required to design aesthetic and human-centered cultural and creative products for the open-ended theme, and original conceptual products with Confucius, Mencius or canal culture as the core elements for the propositional theme.

The challenge for the open-ended theme and the propositional theme in the category of household product design is to design functional and sustainable products and intelligent home appliances for laundry, respectively.

The competition is open to both domestic and overseas college students who are enrolled in a creative field of study. Participants can sign up as an individual or a team of no more than three members. Submissions will be accepted through Oct. 31.

Championship for Innovative Design is a cooperative partner of the international design competition “China Good Design” and aims to build a platform to help innovative and creative designs be turned into products and exposed to the market, according to the organizers.

The competition’s award-winning works will be recommended to compete for the creativity award in “China Good Design.” Winners can also get a chance to participate in roadshows and receive one-on-one training by experts.

The competition, in cooperation with more than 70 universities and colleges nationwide, has been held successfully for three consecutive years.

Guided by the Innovation Design Alliance of China, the competition is organized by the Innovation Design Alliance of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the industrial design branch of Guangdong Mechanical Engineering Society, Nanshan District Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau, and the Shenzhen Industrial Museum.
