Shenzhen residents can now register license plates at designated car dealerships without having to go to the vehicle administration office, the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday.

The Shenzhen vehicle administration office selected 15 service stations Friday to provide new car registration and another five for second-hand car registration at some dealerships in the city.

According to Li Hui, deputy head of the office’s motor vehicle management department, vehicle inspection and information collection can be completed by the dealerships before the cars are sold.

Citizens will then be able to pick up the cars directly after paying, and the dealerships will only need to fill in the car owner’s information to complete the procedure, Li said.

According to statistics, as of Sept. 18, a total of 3,125 pre-sale vehicle inspections had been completed at the vehicle registration service stations across the city.

“With the popularization and promotion of the new measures, we hope that most of the dealerships will be able to offer the license registration service by the end of the year,” Li said.

The simplified license registration service is part of a series of new measures launched by the vehicle administration authority to provide more convenience for citizens.

The measures also include the facilitation of license plate transfers from one city to another. Citizens can now apply for the transfer online and complete the application on the same day in the city where the car is being transferred.
