More than 30,000 college graduates, an increase of 6 percent compared to last year’s fair, attended a job fair held at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center yesterday.

More than 600 enterprises offered more than 20,000 vacancies. The enterprises included those among Fortune 500 enterprises, such as Evergrande, Amer, Vanke, Ping An and Foxconn, as well as well-known local enterprises like BYD, Han’s Laser, BIG and State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) like Shenzhen Airport Group, Shenzhen Gas Group, CRC and Shenzhen Airlines, according to the Shenzhen Public Employment Service Center, the fair’s organizer.

Among the enterprises, more than half of them were private enterprises. SOEs and social undertaking institutions made up 12 percent of the total.

The fair mainly catered to to-be-graduates in 2020, fresh graduates that have been out of universities for no more than two years and overseas students.

Qiu Yue, a graduate from City University of Hong Kong, hoped to find a job related to the cultural industry.

“I think the cultural industry has good prospects, and I want to work in Shenzhen,” said Qiu.

The enterprises present covered the IT, telecommunications and Internet, electronic technology, banking and insurance, property development and aviation and transport sectors.

High and new technologies are still a hot industry with 247 enterprises participating, accounting for 37 percent of the total.

Among the 20,000 vacancies, 90 percent don’t require work experience. The specialty and education background are two factors determining salaries. Graduates in computer, telecommunications, automation, mathematics and electronic engineering are popular. Some enterprises offer an annual salary of 450,000 yuan (US$63,630) for graduates with a high level of education and professional background.

Statistics show that 49.5 percent of jobseekers have obtained bachelor’s degrees, and 35 percent are master’s and doctoral degree holders.

For the fair, the organizer opened an area for internships. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security initiated an internship program to offer opportunities for 3 million young people to take internships over three years. The program covers graduates who have been unemployed within two years after graduation or registered unemployed young people aged between 16 and 30. Young people from impoverished families, low-income families and unemployed families will be given priority.

Those who can’t attend the job fair on-site can also seek job opportunities at the official website of the organizer, http://szggjy.zshr.cn, before the end of the year. After registration, they can upload their resumes and check employment information.

In November, three job fairs will be held at Shenzhen Polytechnic, Xin’an Vocational and Technical Institute and Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology.
