City receives 6.2m holiday visitors

The city received a total of 6.2 million visitors during the seven-day National Day holiday, an increase of 2.81 percent over the same period last year.

The visitors contributed 6.97 billion yuan (US$985 million) to the city’s tourism revenue, an increase of 3.3 percent, a source from the Shenzhen tourism administration showed.

A total of 2.35 million nonlocally registered vehicles visited Shenzhen during the National Day holiday, an increase of 32 percent over the same period last year, sources from the Shenzhen traffic police department said.

Around 2.07 million locally registered vehicles made trips each day during the holiday, an increase of 14.69 percent over the same period last year.

Shenzhen rail, air, ferry and bus terminals handled a total of 6.51 million passengers, a decrease of 4.9 percent. Among them, Shenzhen railway stations handled 4.4 million travelers in seven days, making up 67.7 percent of the total.

The number of bus passengers dropped by 30 percent due to competition from high-speed trains, DIY driving and app-based cabs. The Shenzhen airport handled 148,000 passengers a day.

The law enforcement units of the Shenzhen transport bureau checked a total of 277 unlicensed buses and cars involved in illegal services.

Checkpoints in Shenzhen handled 3.53 million travelers crossing the border in seven days, a source from the Shenzhen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection showed.

Huanggang and Futian checkpoints handled a total of 1.2 million passengers.
