Two public destinations in Longhua District, namely the demonstration section of the Shenzhen Talent Greenway, which is the first greenway of its kind in China, and Shenzhen North Railway Station Central Park, were opened to the public Friday to mark the third Shenzhen Talent Day.

The 6.1-kilometer-long southbound greenway will stretch from Shenzhen North Railway Central Park to Nanping Expressway upon its completion by the end of 2020. Two major talent-themed landscapes are open to visitors along its 1.3-kilometer demonstration section.

The 111-step stairway of the landscape “Road of Reform” takes a retrospective look at the city’s talent policies since 1978. The numbers of important years are posted on signs along with statues, such as the year 2017, in which the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress released general regulations on the talent works of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.

At the end of “Road of Reform” is “Talent Square.” The square features a map of China’s high-speed railway network and a stream-like landscape inspired by the goblet floating game in Wang Xizhi’s (301-363) “Orchid Pavilion Preface.” Before ascending Yaji Mountain via the greenway, visitors can take a rest at the lounge of the square and appreciate woodblock portraits of outstanding talents in Longhua District.

The Talent Greenway will feature five major landscapes upon completion, including a renewed landscape of the original site of the Dongrong Quarry, which halted production in 2008. It’s also a section of the 135-kilometer-long circular greenway of Longhua District, which is to be completed by 2021.

“Longhua District has implemented a development strategy that greatly favors talents. As a result, the number of high-level and basic talents in the district has grown by a factor of 17 and 19, respectively, over the past five years,” stated Du Ling, Party chief of Longhua District, at Friday’s event.

Besides inviting representatives of the district’s overseas returnees and doctoral talents to tour the greenway, the organizers also awarded two industrial parks in the district as demonstration bases for talent services and innovation, and granted 1,600 public housing apartments to talents.

Covering an area of 170,000 square meters, Shenzhen North Railway Station Central Park is located opposite the west square of the station, which features a waterside landscape dotted with local species of flora, such as bougainvilleas and pink trumpet trees. It has a spiral skywalk with a cloud-shaped reading lounge standing at the top.

The event was co-hosted by Longhua District Government, Longhua District Urban Management and Law Enforcement Bureau and Longhua District Talent Works Bureau.

The Shenzhen Talent Park in Nanshan District was opened Nov. 1, 2017, to mark the city’s first Talent Day.
