Nanshan District was awarded as one of China's 10 districts and counties (county-level cities included) with the highest sense of happiness at a forum that ended in Guangzhou on Sunday.

The forum released a survey on happiness in 2019, showing people living in Nanshan in Shenzhen, Tianhe in Guangzhou, Taicang in Jiangsu and Cixi in Zhejiang have the highest sense of happiness.

The organizer of China Happy City Forum also awarded Nanshan the title of innovative and inclusive area.

The annual survey was conducted by Oriental Outlook Weekly and Liaowang Institute, a think tank. It was conducted through public survey, random survey, data collection and material application.

The factors for consideration in the survey include education, health care, income, environment, public service, transportation, safety, life pace and expectancy, future expectations, culture, profession and inclusiveness.

The organizers also invited Baidu Research Institute to provide big data support to make it more authoritative.

“In the 30 years since its establishment in January 1990, Nanshan has taken the opportunities to optimize its industrial structure and followed the pace of development to build four bases for high-tech, modern logistics, culture and tourism, and education and research. It is on the way to becoming a world-class innovative coastal area,” Wang Qiang, Nanshan's Party chief, said at the forum.
