The extension of Metro Line 9 between Hongshuwan South Station and Qianwan Station was put into operation yesterday, marking the extension of the city's Metro network to more than 300 kilometers.

With 10 stations along the line, the extension running through Nanshan CBD will be helpful in relieving congestion in Shenzhen Hi-Tech Industrial Park and stimulating the integration of the Shekou-Qianhai free trade area with the rest of the city.

It takes about one hour for riders to travel the entire line from Wenjin in Luohu to Qianhai.

The 10.8-km extension line has five interchange stations, namely Qianwan Station on Line 5 and Yuehaimen Station, Shenda South Station, Nanyou Station and Menghai Station on lines 13, 15, 12 and Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Rail, respectively, which are currently under planning or construction.

The extension is the second line connecting with Qianhai. Earlier in September, the extension of Metro Line 5 between Qianhaiwan Station and Chiwan Station was put into service. The section runs 7.7 kilometers with seven stations, including three transfer stations with the existing Line 2, Line 9 and future Line 15. It runs through the Qianhai area and Nanshan District.

According to Shenzhen Metro Group, five more lines, namely Line 6, Phase 1 of Line 8, Line 10, the eastern extension of Line 2 and northern extension of Line 4, will be put into operation in 2020 and the city’s Metro network will exceed 400 kilometers.
