Meaning:

“接” means “to connect,” and “地气” literally means “material energy from the earth.” The term is used figuratively to describe the circumstances where certain people, often celebrities or officials, or cultural and artistic works are close to common folks or reflect the life and thoughts of common folks.

Example:

A: 你们新来的领导怎么样?

Nǐmen xīn lái de lǐngdǎo zěnmeyàng?

How is your new boss?

B: 人挺好的,特别接地气。

Rén tǐng hǎo de,tèbié jiēdìqì。

He’s a nice guy and quite cordial.
