Catch Phrase | 熟图(shútú)

Writer: Yang Mei  |  Editor: Stephanie Yang  |  From: Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

“熟” means “ripe, cooked or done” and “图” means “pictures.” “熟图” means “edited or retouched pictures,” and the opposite is “生图” which means “raw, original pictures.”

Like steak, pictures can range from “rare” to “well done.” The former means that though a picture is slightly retouched, people cannot tell the difference between it and the original, whereas the latter refers to a picture that is unrecognizable from the original after a complete retouching.

Example:

A: 你可以教我怎么修图吗?

Nǐ kěyǐ jiāo wǒ zěnme xiūtú ma?

Can you teach me how to edit pictures?

B: 你可以在手机上安装一个可以直接输出熟图的软件。

Nǐ kěyǐ zài shǒujī shàng ānzhuāng yīgè kěyǐ zhíjiē shūchū shútú de ruǎnjiàn。

You can install an app on your phone that can retouch pictures automatically.
