SZ confirms 2 more imported COVID-19 cases with total cases rising to 427

Shenzhen confirmed 2 new imported COVID-19 cases on Mar. 18, adding the number of imported cases in the city to 10, according to the latest figures released by the Health Commission of Shenzhen Municipality today.

Both cases are students of Chinese nationality studying in the United Kingdom. They were confirmed of infection after entering Shenzhen. 

Case 9 was confirmed on the morning of Mar. 18. The patient, a 22-year-old male of Chinese nationality studying in London, returned to China from the United Kingdom. He was sent to a collective quarantine point by a designated car from Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint, then began to show symptoms of fever on the evening of Mar. 17, and was later confirmed of infection. Previously, he lived in Futian District. He left China for the United Kingdom on Jan. 12. 

Case 10 was also confirmed on the morning of Mar. 18. The patient, a 19-year-old male of Chinese nationality studying in London, returned to China from the United Kingdom. He underwent medical observation in Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint and was later confirmed of infection. Previously, he lived in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province. He left China for the United Kingdom on Jan. 5.

The 10 COVID-19 cases the city has confirmed since Feb. 22 were all imported from other countries.

Case 1, a 35-year-old male of Chinese nationality returning from the United Kingdom, was confirmed of infection on Mar. 1;

Case 2, a 70-year-old female of Chinese nationality returning from Spain, was confirmed of infection on Mar. 6;

Case 3, a 25-year-old male of Chinese nationality returning from France, was confirmed of infection on Mar. 11;

Case 4, a 52-year-old male of Chinese nationality returning from the Philippines, was confirmed of infection on Mar. 14.

Case 5, a 13-year-old male of Chinese nationality returning from Switzerland, was confirmed of infection on Mar. 15.

Case 6, a 31-year-old male of Chinese nationality returning from the Philippines, was confirmed of infection on Mar. 15.

Case 7, a 23-year-old male of British nationality returning from the United Kingdom, was confirmed of infection on Mar. 17. 

Case 8, a 29-year-old male of Dutch nationality returning from the Netherlands, was confirmed of infection on Mar. 17. 

Case 9, a 22-year-old male of Chinese nationality returning from the United Kingdom, was confirmed of infection on Mar. 18. 

Case 10, a 19-year-old male of Chinese nationality returning from the United Kingdom, was confirmed of infection on Mar. 18. 

As of Mar. 18, Shenzhen has confirmed a total of 427 COVID-19 cases. Another 4 patients were discharged from hospital the same day.

Of the confirmed cases, 206 are male and 221 are female.

In terms of district distribution, 87 cases were reported in Nanshan District, 82 in Futian District, 71 in Longgang District, 62 in Bao'an District, 34 in Longhua District, 33 in Luohu District, 11 in Guangming District, 7 in Pingshan District, 6 in Yantian District, and 2 in Dapeng New District. The other 32 cases were detected upon entry to the city (from the airport, bus stations, ferry terminals, checkpoints and roadblocks etc.).

Currently, 1 patient is in critical condition, 1 in severe condition and 407 have been discharged from hospital. 3 deaths have been reported so far.

All 17 patients are being treated at Shenzhen No. 3 People's Hospital. 147 people in close contact with the patients are under medical observation.
