Frontline medic representatives from hospitals across the city were invited to visit the Fairy Lake Botanical Garden for a charity event held Saturday.

The Fairy Lake Botanical Garden, which has been closed since Jan. 23 due to the outbreak of COVID-19, pre-opened over the weekend exclusively for frontline medics.

In order to give frontline medics a short break from their tough fight against the virus as the situation in the city improves, the city’s urban administration and law enforcement bureau and health commission jointly initiated the event.

“Around 60 days have passed since we started receiving infected patients. To avoid making contact with people, we never went out after work shifts. So I really appreciate this activity. I just got off a night shift but I still came today. I am so relieved to enjoy the beautiful flowers and fresh air,” said Wu Huishan, a nurse from the Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital, the city’s designated hospital for treating infected patients.

Feng Cheng, a doctor from the hospital’s ultrasonography department, said that he appreciated the chance to spend some time with his family after a long separation.

At present, the city is still seeing imported COVID-19 cases from overseas. Participating medics said that their work still isn’t finished, and they will come back very soon to fight till the end of the outbreak.

The Fairy Lake Botanical Garden is scheduled to reopen to the public starting tomorrow with 2,000 visitors allowed entry each day through the garden’s booking system.

All medics from the whole country can enjoy a free visit to the garden for a period of one year, according to staff with the garden.
