The city will ensure epidemic prevention materials such as face masks, thermometers and protective gear for schools to reopen, said Wang Shuifa, vice director of the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau at a news conference Friday.

Each district will be in charge of general prevention materials needed for schools to reopen while schools themselves will buy consumables, Wang said.

“Having sufficient materials in place is a prerequisite for schools to reopen. We will conduct checks. If schools fail to meet required standards, they will not be allowed to reopen campus,” said Wang.

Additionally, the authority has also added a new requirement for teachers returning from other cities in Hubei Province, in addition to Wuhan, to go through nucleic acid tests to ensure safety.

President of Shenzhen Yucai High School, Zheng Chunhua, said that the school provides hand dryers, soap and hand sanitizer in each restroom.

They have also applied floor stickers in the canteen to remind students and teachers of social distancing while waiting in lines. The Guangdong Provincial Education Bureau announced Thursday that students in their final year of senior and junior middle schools will go back to class April 27.

Elementary and middle school students in other grades will be arranged to resume lessons in different batches after May 11.
