SZ confirms 2 more imported COVID-19 cases

Shenzhen confirmed two new imported COVID-19 cases and reported a new asymptomatic case. One more patient was discharged from hospital after recovery on the same day. As of midnight yesterday, the city had confirmed a total of 458 cases.

Case 38

A 34-year-old male of Chinese nationality who visited Brazil for business purposes and returned to China from there. He left Sao Paulo for Istanbul, Turkey on flight TK194 on March 21, and there he boarded flight TK79 to Hong Kong. On March 24, he boarded flight 9C8922 to Shanghai and entered the Chinese mainland via Shanghai Pudong International Airport. On March 25, he flew from Shanghai to Shenzhen on flight CA1893, and was later sent to a designated quarantine point by a designated vehicle. He was classified as a close contact March 26 after his colleague who had been on the same trip with him was confirmed of COVID-19 infection. 

On April 3, he was sent to hospital by an ambulance because of having developed symptoms including fever and coughing with his body temperature reaching 38 degrees Celsius. Chest CT imaging showed infected lesions in the upper lobe of his right lung. He underwent several nucleic acid tests on the following days with all test results being negative. On Sunday, Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention tested his sputum sample, and the result was positive. He was confirmed of COVID-19 infection after a group consultation by medical experts. 

The patient has been transferred to Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital for treatment. Primary tracing results show that no person on the Chinese mainland has had close contact with the patient. 

Case 39

A 37-year-old male of Chinese nationality returning to China from Cambodia. He flew from Phnom Penh to Guangzhou on flight LQ908 on Friday, and entered the Chinese mainland via Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport on Thursday. His body temperature upon entry was within normal range. In his health status information, he reported diminished sense of smell and use of medication within 14 days prior to his entry. He was later sent to a designated quarantine point in Shenzhen by a designated vehicle. His nucleic acid test result released by Guangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday was positive, and the reviewed result released by Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention on the same day was also positive. He was confirmed of COVID-19 infection yesterday after a group consultation by medical experts. 

The patient has been transferred to Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital for treatment. Some passengers on the same flight with the patient have been preliminarily classified as close contacts. Requests for tracing these passengers have been sent to Guangzhou’s disease control and prevention authorities. 

Domestic cases

No new domestic case was confirmed yesterday. The number of domestic cases confirmed in the city remains 419. 

Asymptomatic cases

A new asymptomatic case was reported yesterday. The patient came from Hubei Province. Currently, 30 asymptomatic patients are under medical observation, among which 14 came from outside the Chinese mainland.

Of the confirmed cases, 227 are male and 231 are female. 

So far, 424 patients have been discharged from hospital after recovery, and three deaths have been reported. 

All the 31 patients are being treated at Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital. The 203 persons in close contact with the patients are under medical observation.
