Shenzheners are urged to take all necessary health precautions, including wearing face masks and washing hands before touching the face, when traveling during the May Day holiday, which starts tomorrow.

This was stated in a notice the city’s headquarters for COVID-19 prevention and control released ahead of the public holiday.

The tourism sector is expected to boom in the holiday as a large number of residents have plans to travel over the five-day holiday after being forced to stay home since the Chinese New Year holiday in late January due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Residents should make thorough travel plans before departure and avoid traveling to places with new COVID-19 outbreaks, the notice said, adding that travelers are advised to be aware of the anti-pandemic policies at their travel destinations such as visits by appointment-only.

Interprovincial travel and overseas tours are discouraged amid the pandemic.

Residents who will visit relatives and friends during the holiday are reminded to keep safe social distances and use serving chopsticks, or have individual servings if possible, when dining out. Those who stay at home for the holiday should keep the windows open for ventilation.

In the notice, the anti-COVID-19 headquarters also reminded residents that contact with livestock should be avoided and wild animals are not for consumption.

Residents are also urged to pay extra attention when dining in popular restaurants at their travel destinations to avoid being ripped-off, according to the Shenzhen Consumer Council.

Consumers are advised to choose large e-commerce platforms that provide after-sale services when doing online shopping and be wary of spending on prepaid cards at hairdressers, gyms and training centers.

In a separate development, a 16-kilometer seawall along the coast in Dapeng New Area is ready to greet holidaymakers during the May Day holiday, with the last section of the Yangmeikeng beach having been completed and opened Tuesday, the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday.

As the original seawall in eastern Dapeng in the eastern part of the city was severely damaged when Super Typhoon Mangkhut swept through Shenzhen in September 2018, the city authority carried out a renovation project to rebuild the seawall while restoring the local ecological environment, the Daily said.

The renovation project has rebuilt the seawall into a dyke with resistance to the worst floods in 200 years, according to the Daily. The seawall project has also been designed for leisure, tourism and cultural activities, one of the main contributions to economic growth in the easternmost area of Shenzhen.

Situated in the Dapeng Peninsula, which boasts one of the eight most beautiful coastlines in China, the seawall offers visitors a breathtaking view of the blue sky and the crystal-clear sea.
