The Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen intercity rail line will be further extended more than 15 kilometers from Shenzhen International Airport to Qianhai, according to an environmental impact report recently released by Shenzhen Metro Group.

The design of the section has been completed, work will start in June as scheduled and will be completed in 2024. Three stations are planned, namely Xixiang Station, Bao’an Station and Qianhai Station.

Bao’an Station is an interchange station with Fanshen Station of Line 5 and the yet-to-be-built station on Metro Line 9.

The operating section of the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen intercity rail — the section between Guangzhou’s Xintang and Shenzhen International Airport via Dongguan — began service in December last year, offering a quick link for passengers between the three cities.

In the future, the rail will be further extended from Qianhai to Huanggang Checkpoint to support the development of Qianhai and Coastal New Town in Dongguan.

On Guangzhou’s side, the rail will be extended to Baiyun International Airport through a link with Xintang Station.

It will be connected with other Pearl River Delta cities through links with the Foshan-Dongguan rail, Dongguan-Huizhou rail and Guangzhou-Foshan rail.
