Contractors carry out an electricity-load live wire test on the northbound extension of Shenzhen Metro Line 4. Shenzhen Metro Group

An electricity-load live wire test of the extension of Metro Line 4 was successfully conducted early Sunday morning, marking a step closer to opening.

By the end of the year, riders will be able to take the extended line to Guanlan, Longhua District.

The extension runs 10.8 kilometers between Qinghu Station and Niuhu Station.

In the 12-hour test, contractors of the project tested various data by operating the train at high, medium and low speeds.

“During the test, the contact wire system, electric and mechanical system and pantograph-OCS system met the requirements for operation,” said Wu Qizhong, chief electric and mechanical manager with HKMTR Consulting Co. Ltd.

The success of the test means the line is fully prepared for an overall test of the extension.

The extension line runs northward from Qinghu Station, along Heping Road, Guanlan Boulevard and Gao’erfu Boulevard. It has eight stations including Changhu Station, an interchange station with the upcoming Line 18 and Songyuan Station with the planned Line 22. At Guanlan Station, it connects with the Longhua Tram Line.

Once operational, the entirety of Line 4 will stretch 31.3 kilometers.

The trip from Guanlan to Futian Checkpoint will take 51 minutes.
