Shenzhen Institute of Design and Innovation, one of the city’s 10 new cultural facilities, will be built on the southern part of the Fenghuang Mountain in Bao’an District, according to a plan that has passed review recently at a meeting of the Shenzhen Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau.

The institute covers an area of 348,955 square meters including 269,902 square meters for education facilities. The public can check the details at http://pnr.sz.gov.cn, the official website of the city’s planning and natural resources bureau and http://pnr.sz.gov.cn/ba, the official website of the Bao’an administration of the bureau. The public can also give feedback before June 28 by calling 27832425, faxing to 27820383, or mailing to the Bao’an administration at No. 293, Qianjin No. 1 Road, Bao’an District.

The institute will start with 100 students in the beginning and will eventually accommodate 800 students in 2024, including 400 undergraduate, 300 postgraduate and 100 doctorate students. It is the first higher education institution to be built in Bao’an District.

Construction on the institute will start this August and will be completed in 2024.

The institute is also one of the five higher education institutions that have been listed in the government agenda for construction in the coming years.

The other four institutions include the Shenzhen Research Institute of Ocean University of China, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shenzhen University of Technology and the Shenzhen Conservatory of Music, according to an official with the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau in an earlier report of Shenzhen Daily. The city aims to have 20 higher education institutions by the end of 2025 and the number of full-time students on campus will reach 250,000.

In another development, the Guangming administration of the city’s planning and natural resources bureau unveiled a land use plan Monday to incorporate 2.41 hectares of forest land in Xinhu Subdistrict in Guangming District into the construction of the Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum (New Hall). The new museum will open to the public in 2023. The new science museum is located at Guangming Science City, adjacent to Guangming Station of Metro Line 6.

The project occupies 66,000 square meters of land and has a 50,000-square-meter park for the popularization of science.

The facility has a floor area of 105,000 square meters that will be divided into seven functional areas, including a display area, science movie area, innovation area, communication area, and public service and business administration areas. The science and technology display area is the core section that covers 35,000 square meters. It is about 5 kilometers from Guangmingcheng Railway Station, which is a half-hour trip to Hong Kong or Guangzhou.
