The winning design scheme for the Shenzhen North Railway Station hub area has recently been unveiled after a seven-month selection from international design proposals, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Thursday.

The winning design scheme was jointly presented by Japanese architectural design firm Nihon Sekkei, PCKK International Asia Pte. Ltd., and Shenzhen Huahui Design Co. Ltd.

The Shenzhen North Railway Station hub area is strategically well-placed on the central axis of Shenzhen. It is one of the 17 key development areas in Shenzhen and an important part of the city’s core urban area in the future.

Located in Longhua District, Shenzhen North Railway Station is the city’s largest high-speed rail station, and according to the design scheme, the area surrounding the station will be turned into an urban hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Metro Line 4 and 5, which are currently in operation, have a stop at the Shenzhen North Railway Station. Line6, which will start operation soon, and lines 22 and 27 plus the Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Railway will also be connected to the hub in the future.

“The Shenzhen North Railway Station area will evolve from a transportation hub to a new urban hub,” an official with Longhua District told the Daily.
