Meaning:

Literally translated as “to group mock,” this term is originally used by gamers to refer to the scenario where one player deliberately attracts hostile attention from a group of monsters to give their teammates under attack a break.

In online forums or on social media, the word means to “mock or lash at a group of people.”

Example:

A: 中国国足的队员们又被群嘲了。

Zhōngguó guózú de duìyuánmen yòu bèi qúncháo le。

The guys in China’s national soccer team got criticized again.

B: 一点都不奇怪,他们球踢得那么糟糕,偏偏又拿那么高的薪水,当然很多人看不过去。

Yīdiǎn dōu bù qíguài,tāmen qiú tī de nàme zāogāo,piānpiān yòu ná nàme gāo de xīnshuǐ,dāngrán hěnduō rén kànbuguòqù。

Not surprising at all. These people perform terribly but are still paid a super high salary. Of course many people feel indignant.
