Over 83,000 people have been sampled for nucleic acid tests in Shenzhen after two new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were reported in the city Friday and none tested positive, an official told a press conference yesterday.

The two new patients are a 27-year-old male living in Luohu District and a 32-year-old female living in Longgang District. Both worked at the Hema Fresh Supermarket Shuibei outlet in the IBC Mall in Luohu District.

The two new cases were transferred to Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital for medical observation Friday and are currently in stable condition, said Luo Lexuan, head of the city’s health commission and spokesman of the city’s epidemic prevention and control leading group.

The two new asymptomatic cases were found after one of their co-workers, who works as a yogurt saleswoman at the supermarket, tested positive for COVID-19 in Shanwei City, Guangdong Province, on Friday. The 41-year-old woman returned to her hometown in Shanwei from Shenzhen with her three children by bus Aug. 6, according to the provincial health commission.

All residents living in the same buildings as the two patients in Shenzhen have been isolated for observation and nucleic acid tests have been conducted. Relevant residential communities and venues have been thoroughly disinfected.

As of 6 a.m. yesterday, the city had collected 83,413 nucleic acid test samples, including 5,531 samples from 21 outlets and two warehouses of Hema Fresh Supermarket in the city.

Additionally, 1,426 surface samples and 1,125 food samples have been collected at Hema Fresh Supermarket outlets, all of which tested negative for COVID-19.

No new positive COVID-19 cases have been found except for the two asymptomatic cases reported Friday, according to the city’s health commission.

Citizens who have visited the Hema supermarket outlet in IBC since July 24 can go to three designated sites for a free nucleic acid test.
