Meaning:
“世代”, meaning “generation,” together with “Z” and translated from the English term “Generation Z,” this term refers to the demographic cohort following Generation Y — which is more popularly known as the Millennial Generation. Members of Generation Z were born after 1995. Like the Millennial generation, Generation Z is comfortable with new technologies because they have grown up in an Internet-connected learning environment from birth. Many younger members of this cohort played with computer tablets when they were toddlers and do not remember a world without smart phones. Not surprisingly, texting and social media interaction are the cohort’s preferred communication mode.
Example:
A: 我想买一件衣服送给外甥女,不知道她喜欢什么样的衣服。
Wǒ xiǎng mǎi yījiàn yīfú sònggěi wàishēngnǚ,bù zhīdào tā xǐhuan shénmeyàng de yīfú。
I want to buy an outfit for my niece, but I’m not sure what she would like.
B: Z世代的后浪们有个性,很多人喜欢一些小众品牌。你不如问问她本人的意见。
Z shìdài de hòulàng men yǒu gèxìng,hěnduō rén xǐhuan yīxiē xiǎozhòng pǐnpái。Nǐ bùrú wènwen tā běnrén de yìjiàn。
Generation Z people have their own unique tastes and many prefer niche brands. You may as well ask her opinion first.
