Ten doctors were bestowed the title of “Shenzhen Good Doctor” and another 10 earned nominations in recognition of their dedication and contributions to the city’s health care sector.

The results were officially announced at Shenzhen Media Group on Monday night after a preliminary review, online vote, expert review and public announcement.

Yesterday marked the third Doctors’ Day in China, which is one of the four national days dedicated to a certain profession — the other three being Nurses’ Day, Teachers’ Day and Journalists’ Day.

According to statistics, there were 40,795 licensed doctors and assistant doctors in Shenzhen as of August this year, of which 21,541 were men and 19,254 women.

With the increase of licensed doctors in the city, Shenzhen continues to make efforts in medical personnel training. At present, there are seven standardized training bases.

The city has also been promoting specialist training between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. In 2019, a specialist training center was inaugurated at the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital (HKU-SZH).

At present, some departments of HKU-SZH have obtained the base training qualifications from the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, and have carried out specialist training on a pilot basis.

In recent years, Shenzhen has improved the appraisal method for the salaries of medical staff at public hospitals. The average income of medical workers at the city’s public hospitals had increased by 22.13 percent from 2015 to 2017, according to the city’s health commission.

The city has also established a subsidy mechanism for family doctors and will grant a one-off allowance of up to 350,000 yuan (US$50,540) to medical graduates working at community health centers.
