SMBU welcomes more than 300 freshmen

Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU) welcomed over 300 freshmen from 14 provinces across the country Saturday.

A welcoming ceremony was held the same day in the university’s auditorium.

Zhu Dijian, vice rector of SMBU, extended his congratulations to the new students for their efforts made during the epidemic.

He urged freshmen to combine their personal dreams with the country’s causes and to work together with the university for future development.

The university’s first vice rector, Sergey Shakhray, also extended his greetings to new students through a video.

He said that the university will not only give students opportunities to learn languages but also chances to improve and practice knowledge.

In order to provide convenience to new students, the university provided a free shuttle bus service at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport and Shenzhen North Railway Station.

For epidemic control and prevention, all people entering the campus are required to present their health codes and go through a body temperature check.

Chen Hongwei, from Hunan Province who has been admitted into the material science major, became the first registered freshman.

Chen and his parents drove their car from Hunan to Shenzhen. Chen said that he was looking forward to a new life and will work hard in his studies.

The campus also saw twins from Shandong Province on Saturday. Both of them will study in the bioscience major at university.

They said that they will first overcome Russian, the language barrier, and study hard in their major to earn more learning opportunities in the future.

SMBU enrolled 315 students in six majors this year. The new batch of students will immediately start a one-month Russian-language course, according to the university.
