Nanshan ranks 1st on hi-quality development list

Nanshan District ranked first among districts of Chinese cities in terms of high-quality development, according to a white paper compiled by an economic research center subsidiary to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Thursday.

Futian, Longgang and Bao’an districts ranked No. 3, No. 4 and No. 8, respectively. Luohu and Longhua districts positioned 22nd and 23rd.

Seven districts in Guangdong were among the top 10, according to the white paper.

Nanshan’s total economic volume exceeded 600 billion yuan (US$87.8 billion) last year, ranking first in Guangdong Province for seven consecutive years.

The economic scale of Nanshan ranked third in the country, and increased over the year by 7.6 percent.

The number of Nanshan’s Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) international patent applications accounted for nearly one eighth of China’s total amount in 2019.

Ten projects in the district won the National Science and Technology Awards last year, and many Fortune Global 500 companies, including Airbus, Accenture and China Datang Corp., have set up their innovation centers in the district.

Nanshan has also successfully attracted 61 projects from enterprises such as Xiaomi, JD, Meituan, ByteDance and New Hope Group.

Six companies in Nanshan, including Appotronics and Transsion, have been listed on sci-tech innovation board, known as STAR Market. Two firms from the district are listed on the Fortune Global 500, and seven are among the top 100 Chinese Internet companies.

Nanshan District achieved 304.2 billion yuan in GDP in the first half of this year, up 2.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

The revenue in service industry from January to May was around 212.7 billion yuan, up 9.5 percent.

Software and information technology service industry became its major growth point, making some 167.6 billion of revenue between January and May in total.

Additionally, Nanshan completed a fixed asset investment of 62.55 billion yuan from January to June, topping districts in the city.
